Duration: 1 day
Cost: $30 per person
Description of the tour:
Today we will embark on an exciting journey along the Georgian Military Road, one of the most famous and picturesque trails in Georgia. This path is laid through the mountains of the Caucasus, and offers travelers not only amazing views, but also introduces them to historical monuments, places of worship and natural wonders.
Tour program:
1. Ananuri Fortress
Our journey begins with a visit to the Ananuri Fortress, a majestic monument of late feudal Georgia that will forever remain in your memory. It is one of the most recognizable historical sites in the country. The fortress stands on the picturesque bank of the Aragvi River and guarded a strategically important section of the Georgian Military Road. A walk through the ancient walls and towers of the fortress immerses you in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages and the greatness of the armies of that time.
2. Ascent to Krestovy Pass and Gudauri
Next, we set off along the Krestovy Pass (2,379 m above sea level), which marks the high-altitude section of the Georgian Military Road. The nature here is breathtaking: in winter there are snowy expanses, and in summer there are green valleys and mountain peaks. We will go up to Gudauri, the largest ski resort in Georgia, located on the slopes of the South Caucasus. Gudauri is famous for its resorts and unique conditions for extreme sports such as paragliding. We will be able to enjoy the views of the mountains, breathing in the fresh air and feeling the grandeur of the Caucasus.
3. Stepantsminda and Gergeti Temple
After Gudauri, we will head to the village of Stepantsminda (formerly Kazbegi), located at the foot of the majestic Kazbek Mountain (5033 m). The Holy Trinity Church is one of the most popular tourist sites in Georgia, which stands against a backdrop of stunning views of Kazbek and the surrounding mountains. This place is imbued with the spirit of antiquity, and stands here to feel the connection with history and nature.
4. Pasanauri is the birthplace of Khinkali
On the way back, we will make a stop in the village of Pasanauri, where two rivers merge — the White and Black Aragvi. This beautiful place is often called a symbol of the boundless love of the two elements. Pasanauri is famous as the birthplace of the Georgian dish khinkali, and here you will have the opportunity to taste this famous dish with meat and spicy spices.
